Someone has been stealing from a king.
Five hundred feet above Macau, Ho Chan listens as a blackjack dealer is beaten. Blind but impossible to fool, the casino CEO gives a single order: find the thief.

One blue. One brown. Both milky—and still searching.

A thin Japanese woman guides Chan’s hand to the cup.

The dealer knows nothing. Ho Chan does not believe him.

02 The Call
A hostage room needs a reader.
FBI agent Maria Garcia has been grazed in the hip. Chief Adamo calls the one man who may still understand the gunman: disgraced behavioral therapist Mac Allen.

The stone catches on Maria’s cuff. Mac notices.

The chief’s daughter is trapped inside with her husband, Officer Peter Buckley.

03 The Old Wound
Pain already owns the room.
Jimmy Flynn sits in a wheelchair, rosary in hand, while Scarface beats Mac and asks what Flynn’s daughter told him. The attack leaves Mac with scars, a damaged back, and a secret he cannot release.

Flynn’s right hand keeps counting while Mac takes the blows.

Mac reads what everyone else misses.
Shoes off and back brace tight, Mac studies Buckley’s posture, ringtone, watch, and dominant hand. He finds a cop, a gambler, and a husband desperate to rewind one terrible night.

05 One More Hand
The bet is surrender.
Mac turns Buckley’s gambling language into a lifeline: one more hand, a clean game, no vig. Buckley finally places the gun into Mac’s open palms.

Ellen and Peter are safe. Adamo calls Mac’s ability a gift. Mac calls it a curse—and returns alone to the room that nearly killed them.

12 Black Ice
Love feels like losing control.
Maria meets Mac under the desert sky. He tells her Flynn has threatened Ruby. She tells him being with him is like walking on black ice—and an SUV watches from the darkness.

Every step with Mac feels beautiful and unsafe.

The threat becomes a departure time.
Flynn hands Mac a Macau travel visa and fresh photographs of Ruby. He also reveals the truth about his chair: his legs can feel, but they cannot move.

Macau is no longer a possibility. It is an assignment.

The city locks behind him.
Edwin Lee waits in a black suit and yellow socks. His knuckles are scarred, his eyes are kind, and one finger is half missing. The limousine locks before Mac sees what the city does to thieves.

His daughter’s favorite color, worn beneath the uniform.

An old punishment in plain sight.

17 Saudade
Grief recognizes grief.
Edwin tells Mac that his wife and daughter died in Typhoon Hato two days after the girl’s seventh birthday. Mac shows him Ruby—and admits he has lost his daughter in a different way.

The table knows his name.
Black chips worth five thousand dollars each pull Mac toward relapse. He stares at the cards, then opens his hands and lets the chips spill. Elsewhere, Maria is caught at exactly 11:11.

Flynn’s bait becomes real beneath Mac’s fingers.

Mac walks away and tips the dealer one chip.

Security closes around Maria as she looks into the camera.

21 Tell Me About It
Now we will see.
Mac uses Cedar Musk and the word saudade to break through Chan’s control. Then Chan’s watch reveals Maria captured below. After black, Tina hides as the SUV door opens—and Maria’s dirt-covered FBI badge rests on the dashboard.

Mac shouts his daughter’s name as Chan searches for his pulse.
